Gorongosa NP Sightings

Although there are not plenty of animals in Gorongosa NP, there are still more than enough around for dynamic game drives. The chance of finding elephants is very little, because many elephants still have a trauma because of the Civil War. Even the sound of a car engine is enough for them to flee. Despite it, enough game can be spotted in Gorongosa.

Thoughts about Gorongosa NP

The Civil War in Mozambique, that lasted until 1992, left profound traces in Gorongosa NP. During the war, thousands of animals were killed by Guerillas, who had encampments around the park. Also many animals were either killed by land mines or were marauded.

Supported by the European Community and Carr Foundation the rebuilding process has started up a couple of years ago. Infrastructure has been improved, the camps have been renewed and many animals from other parks have been restocked in Gorongosa NP.
