Liwonde NP Sightings

Liwonde NP is a relatively small park, with Shire river as its most important lifeline. In and around the river numerous birds have their habitat, but for sure you will see the hippopotamus too. The park organizes boat tours on Shire River where hippos can be seen at close quarters. Except for elephants, the park doesn’t offer too good chances of spotting other big game, which means that doing a walking tour is relatively safe. The guide tries to approach elephants closely, but always keeps a safe distance.

Furthermore, you will surely spot baboons, waterbucks, impalas and warthogs. One more recommendation is the Night Drive. It offers excellent possibilities to see animals that you won’t see during daytime. We mean genets, mongooses and bushbabies.

Thoughts about Liwonde NP

In our opinion, Liwonde NP is not a park for a very long visit (practically no big cats can be found there) but it’s surely worth a visit, when you’re in Malawi.
